We're headed southwest now, toward some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.
Our next contact with high terrain is Coyote Flats. We could be as low as 9000 feet there and still climb with ease up the ridges that face south into Big Pine Creek, leading to the main spine of the Sierra crest.
