There is a myth that "you can't get back to Crystal" late in the day. That's nonsense.
One thing is certain, though: it's absolutely impossible - unless you TRY !
Most afternoons, the west wind pushes a shearline east, several miles beyond Palmdale. If we've gotten low at the end, we usually wind up near the small buttes around Lake Los Angeles (scarcely visible in the upper left), for one last little climb. CRYSTAL is in the crosshairs, about 20 miles SE from this viewpoint.
