On the west side of this tiny peak (to the right in this view), the ground is high & there is no room below you. On the east side, however, the terrain drops away into the desert, providing ample reservior for thermals.
Here is where we have to prove ourselves. The lift will almost certainly be present, but it may require careful, aggressive soaring technique to begin the climb that will eventually take us up over San Gorgonio, the highest peak in southern California.
