In the top view we are looking on beyond our turnpoint, south & east toward Mexico.
The mountains are smaller, but the lift can still be terrific.

In the lower view we are looking back toward home. San Gorgonio is above the horizon in the upper right, and our local San Gabriel Mts are on the upper left, 80 miles away.
CRYSTAL lies under the horizon, left center.
If we were to go straight from here to there we would probably have no chance of reaching home in soaring flight.
